Come and get it.

Microsoft says it has released code for Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4).

This gaggle of goodies is the fruition of your input. The company claims the updates in SP4 are based on customer feedback, as well as test results conducted within Redmond's ranks. More muscular security, improved application and hardware compatibility, increased OS reliability and a less-stressful Win2k setup are all part of the package, according to Microsoft.

The pack also packs more desktop support -- for USB 2.0 and 802.1x.

Microsoft's end-user license agreements (EULAs) are sporting a new look in SP4. The company has made changes to the "automatic Internet-based services" language in the EULA -- you will now be alerted to the fact that you can disable certain features, which, according to the company, means better disclosure and more control.

Windows 2000 SP4 can be applied to Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2000 Advanced Server, and Windows 2000 with the Server Appliance Kit.

You can download the code from www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/servicepacks/sp4/default.asp. A CD version is also available.
