QUESTION POSED ON: 27 May 2004
1. My Windows NT 4.0 server crashed. I had a backup of the registry. Can I restore user profiles from the registry backup?

2. I have taken over a domain which has a PDC and several member servers. There is no BDC. How can I make one of the member servers a BDC without reinstalling the OS?

EXPERT RESPONSE
1. You might be able to if your registry backup includes a copy of the SAM/SECURITY Registry keys.

2. Assuming you're running Windows NT 4.0 Server, you cannot. This was one of the limitations of NT 4.0 that was addressed in WIndows 2000.
